All of us know that the healthcare system in Sweden is not that good. But I didn't expect it to be so terrible. Visit there was the worst experience in my life. I arrived with clear signs of pneumonia with high fever and body exhaustion. They forced me to wait 16 hours in the hospital before my diagnosis was determined. I had to wait sitting on uncomfortable plastic chair all these hours with much pain and fever. But the worst part of it is that they came up with unreasonable hypothesis that I have a blood clot in my lung. To test their absurd hypothesis, they forced me to do the CT scan. I begged not to do it, I cried, I talked to 6 different doctors /nurses, I said that I refuse because of potential bad risk from radiation. They did not care. I begged to let me go home. They didn´t allow me to go home. They said that before I do the CT scan, I can´t go home. So they forced me to do the CT scan and of course it turned out that I don´t have any blood clots. I have pneumonia, which was clear from the very beginning, I even suggested them that I might have pneumonia. It´s good that eventually they diagnosed the disease correctly. But the damage my body went through cannot be recovered. I feel angry, frustrated, and abused, being forced to do radiation that I didn´t want to do and which was absolutely unnecessary. Now I have panic attacks after this. I cry every hour and I am extremely scared of getting cancer because of this CT scan. I know that the likelihood is small but there is plenty of research done on the link between radiation especially higher radiation such as chest CT scan which is around 7 msv and increased cancer rates. This dose of radiation is similar to what people got living next to Chernobyl. Was it really necessary to do this to me?
I visited the emergency room to get stitches on my knee and had a very good experience. I'm super scared of hospitals and needles but the doctors and the nurses were very empathetic and sweet and made sure that I was feeling comfortable and relaxed during the whole process.
Visited th emergencies at 17.15 with very high blood pressure , vertigo and heart palpitations.nThey took blood and I'm still waiting . The time is 21.07.nAt least I'm still alive.nnSwedish Healthcare system at it s finest.nnUpdate: 22.18 still waiting. Still alive.nnUpdate 23.59 still waiting , still alive. At this point I want to take away the one star I gave them. Heart palpitations every 5 minutes.nnFinal update after 7 hours of waiting:nThe nurse told me it could take another 5 hours until I would be able to see a doctor.nI asked them how they prioritize the patients since there were people that came after me and were already gone. They said based on urgency. So I guess mine isn't urgent, therefore I could go...? At that point I hoped they had at least looked at my tests and classified me as non urgent.nThey said : no the doctor hasn't looked at your testsso how did they know I wasn't urgent but yes you can go home but you will sign first.nSo I signed and i left.nnThese are THE WORST EMERGENCIES IVE EVER BEEN.nSave yourself some time, watch Doctor House and self medicate instead.nnThe day after: I have booked an appointment to see a doctor through my private Healthcare insurance for tomorrow. Read that again. TOMORROW.
Very happy with my experience at this place. Had an acute situation at 02:30 in the morning, the waiting room is a bit small and there could be more people admitting patients - but I guess it was the hour of the day. From once I was admitted everything went perfect. The staff were all super nice and accommodating. The place - especially the new building is top notch. The nurses and doctors did a great job of keeping me painfree, informed and ensured in what is happening.nnComing in I was scared of the experience because of all the negative review, but my experience was the exact opposite. 9/10 for real.
ER waiting times and treatment by staff is way under all criticism. The organisation is in desperate need for restructure and re-evaluate policies.
