An upsetting experience for my family and I had during an emergency visit to Helsingborg Hospital around 6:30 AM, as advised by 1177.nnWe arrived in a distressed state with our sick child, after a sleepless night and without having eaten. Upon arrival, we were approached by a frontline nurse who asked, “Why are you here?” in fluent English. I began to explain our situation in English — a language I am more comfortable with, especially when it comes to discussing medical issues. Despite her fluency, she interrupted me with a sharp, “Don’t you know Swedish?” Her tone felt unnecessarily rude and dismissive, especially given the context.nnWhile I do understand basic Swedish, I am not fluent. In a medical emergency, I believe it is entirely reasonable to prioritize clear communication. Her comment that I should have first asked if she speaks English felt both unprofessional and unfair, particularly since she clearly did speak English well and had already initiated the conversation in that language.nnUnfortunately, the situation escalated. It appeared she had discussed the interaction with a colleague, because when that colleague called us next, she deliberately began speaking only in Swedish. When my spouse politely asked if she could continue in English, she let out a deep, dramatic sigh, visibly expressing frustration, and then wordlessly gestured with her hand toward a direction, rather than offering a clear or respectful response.nnThis experience left us feeling disrespected and unwelcome during a moment of vulnerability. Emergency care settings require not only medical expertise but also compassion, empathy, and professionalism. Language should not be used as a barrier or a point of judgment — especially when patients are doing their best to communicate under stress.
I went to hospital with my wife .she already operated in angelhom 10 days before and they cooperated very very good but here we go for change bandage and she is feeling pain also and she can't sit too much and we have to wait to long and I talk two times to the receptionist for help but sorry to say they did not cooperate good as they should do with the patients
Worst service.nThe nurse I talked to was very mean to me. Acted very mad and unproffesional. She refused to speak English even though she could speak English perfectly fine and forced me to speak Swedish. My Swedish is very basic and she could hear that, but still she continued in Swedish. She asked me all of these difficult questions, I didn't understand and got super grumpy when I told her I didn't understand what she was saying. I was very upset after meeting her, as I felt super sick and you go to a hospital to get help. Nurses in my opinion should try to comfort you and try to help you. Not to get mad at you for coming to the hospital...
My mother-in-law visited us in Sweden and while traveling had a bad fall and hurt her arm and ankle. Upon her arrival we immediately went to the emergency in lasarettet. There we saw a nurse who said the ankle was “no problem” because my mother in law could walk and that she would look only at the arm. Then she just felt the arm a little bit and told us it “was not broken” because my mother in law still could make certain movements and nothing was swollen. My mother in law told her several times she was in pain, but the nurse just repeated it was not broken and probably “just a little bruised”. She refused to take a scan or refer us to a doctor. She also joked that “a little pain” is normal after a fall. She told the patient to go home and take pain killers ipren, alvedon and if it was worse the next day to go to a vårrcentralen. The next day it was not worse, but also not better. We decided that mother in law would go to the hospital after her stay with us, in her home country of Croatia she stayed with us in Sweden 5 days. We heard back from her now after her hospital visit in Zagreb: doctor asked her to stretch her arm which she couldn’t do, took a scan and her ELBOW is BROKEN!! I can’t believe they wouldn’t let us see a real doctor here and didn’t take us seriously, didn’t even take a scan!! Totally unprofessional, they should be ashamed!
The receptionist is mean and aggressive and should not be in this kind of job. Because her job is to welcome patients in emergency cases, and she should be kindly and helpful.
