The Nordic Museum was a fantastic experience and definitely worth a visit while in Stockholm. It offers a deep and well-curated look into Nordic life, traditions, and social evolution from the 1500s to modern times. The exhibitions cover a wide range of topics—everything from clothing and design to domestic life, customs, and societal roles throughout the centuries.nnOne of the highlights was seeing how everyday life evolved over the centuries, including changing fashion trends, rural vs. urban lifestyles, and even how homes were furnished in different eras. The recreated 1940s flat and the children’s playhouse offered a unique glimpse into family life at that time.nnThe reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the rather unwelcoming attitude of the front desk lady. For someone in such a central and public-facing position, a smile and a friendly greeting go a long way—especially in a museum that attracts visitors from around the world. It set a poor tone at the beginning of the visit, which is unfortunate given how strong the rest of the experience was.nnOverall, I highly recommend the Nordic Museum to anyone interested in understanding Sweden’s rich cultural and historical landscape. It’s informative, immersive, and a great way to spend a few hours in Stockholm.
Nordiska Museet is one of the best museums in Stockholm for learning about Scandinavian culture and history. The building itself is a treasure, with its grand architecture and impressive entrance. Inside, the exhibits cover everything from Swedish fashion and furniture to Sami culture and everyday life in different eras.nI spent around 3 hours exploring, and it could've been more, as there’s so much to take in. The museum is well-organized, with informative displays and a free audioguide that makes the experience even better check out their official website. Some of the exhibitions are permanent, while others are temporary and thus, locations may change. We did get lost at some point, and had to ask for directions. Maybe best to have a visiting plan from the start.nThe life-size 1940s apartment permanent exhibition on the ground floor - go left from reception was one of my favorites — so fascinating to get a glimpse into the beginning of the Nordic social welfare years!nThere’s also a restaurant with Swedish dishes, perfect for a break after wandering through the museum.nThe staff were friendly and helpful, and everything was accessible with elevators for those who need them.nI visited on a weekend and there was no queue, no need to buy tickets in advance.nn‍ Easy to get to subway, bus, or ferryn Free audioguide availablen On-site restaurantn Museum shop with traditional souvenirs
Beautiful museum with a lot of history well presented to the guests. A multitude of objects with a nice description. It is like to go through the history. A nice time traveling... I would recommend this museum to all the tourists. A learning experience. It is really worth a visit.
When it comes to the exhibits, there’s nothing particularly extraordinary — mostly important history, traditional costumes, and things like that. But the way it’s all presented, with each room thoughtfully designed, is absolutely top-notch. Plus, the building itself is really beautiful, so it’s definitely worth seeing for that reason alone.
Amazing museum! The Nordic life exhibition telling the history from 1500 until now was excellent. Various elements made it interactive and you could spend as long as short as you like. I spent at least 3 hours in the museum and you can do even longer. Good Cafe and museum shop as well. A must visit!
