Lovely experience. Even better was the girl explaining the entire history of the ship to us in English. She was hilarious, subtle, and very nuanced while narrating the story.nnMy wife, a history buff, though rates it a five star. I would have liked a little better lighting.nnWe thank our friend who recommended the museum.
The Vasa Museum is an absolute gem in Stockholm, showcasing one of the world’s most fascinating maritime artifacts—a remarkably well-preserved 17th-century warship that sank on its maiden voyage in 1628. The museum is dedicated entirely to the Vasa, and the ship itself is the centerpiece, standing proudly in the middle of the museum for visitors to admire.nnSeeing the Vasa up close is truly awe-inspiring. The level of preservation is extraordinary, and the intricate details of the ship’s carvings and structure are still visible after nearly 400 years underwater. It’s a haunting reminder of the ship’s tragic sinking, yet a testament to Sweden’s maritime history.
Very well done museum. Highly recommend, even if you are not interested in ships. Neither me nor my wife are Maritime enthusiast but we loved the museum and stayed until close. It's a very interesting and impeccably and uniquely preserved time capsule. We wanted to read every plaque. If you go, we recommend you start with one of the free tours - that helped give us an overview, and then we perused the museum ourselves for another few hours.
Amazing museum! I was totally awed by both the size and the beauty of the Vasa. The artistry and workmanship that went into her construction is astounding! Sadly, since she sank almost immediately on her maiden voyage she was probably a better work of art than a sailing ship! I’d suggest an early visit. And if you have the Go City Stockholm card enter through the prepaid lines on the left! No wait at all when I got there!
Visiting The Vasa Museum is a must if you are into your history and ship wrecks. With a detailed interest in the Mary Rose and Titanic, I found this museum fascinating.nOver 300 years underwater and the Vasa is beautifully preserved as are the remains of her crew, their belongings and weapons. The photos don't do her justice and seeing her in real life as you walk through the doors does take your breath away.nThere is plenty to read and explore which will keep you busy for a good few hours. However, even with the 'kid friendly trail' I perhaps was pushing my luck with a 5 and 3 year old. Nevertheless, the exhibits, the explanations and the fact there is a whole warship to look at from hundreds of years ago is more than enough to visit kids under 18 are free too which is great!.nWhen we visited there was also a small bonus exhibit featuring Lego creations of the worlds most famous wrecks including a sinking forward section of Titanic! What luck! The kids actually liked this part as they could build their own Lego creations at the two building stations in the exhibit. Not sure how long this will be situated within the museum so if this is an attractive element to you then it is probably best to go soon!
